D.O.T. Physicals

Requirements for Commercial Drivers

If you work for the Department of Transportation (DOT), you are likely quite familiar with the need for a regular checkup and physical examination. We have certified providers who can provide you with incredibly flexible appointment times. At Harpeth Valley Health Center, all of our Bellevue DOT physicalsfully comply with the regulations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Commercial drivers are required to undergo DOT physical examinations in order to ensure that they are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to drive commercial vehicles professionally.

During your exam, we may check for a variety of relevant conditions, such as:

  • Respiratory issues
  • Hearing issues
  • Vision acuity
  • Heart disorders
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver, kidney, lung, and nervous system health issues
  • Muscular weakness or disease
  • Digestion issues
  • Diabetes
  • Recent or past injuries or illnesses

Preparing for Your Physical Examination

When you come in for your examination, we ask that you bring a list of any medications you are currently taking, your last DOT physical card, an approval letter from a medical specialist (if you have a chronic condition), and your prescription contacts and / or glasses (if applicable). You should also note that it is best to schedule an appointment to better ensure that our DOT medical examiner is available on the day of your visit.
